Yes. Our service is Beyond Awesomeness.

It works with up to 5 years (Can be upgraded to 10 years) of past transactions. So if you import all of your transactions from 5 years ago, we'll show you the performance of your portfolio since 5 years ago.

That is how awesome our service is.

Then how come my portfolio, which has transactions going back to 2005 only calculates results from the day I made my stockalicious account, less than one year ago?

I've checked your portfolio.

Everything seems to be working fine. The performance is tracked from 2005-08-04 onwards.

If you go to your dashboard, we'll show you your YTD performance (i.e. your performance since the start of this year).

If you want to see your performance for the past 1 mth, 1 year or 2 years, you can go to the Performance selection.

To change the period, just click on 'Settings' (beside Compare) and select your desired period.

Let me know if you are still having problems.

I went to performance and clicked "max" on the chart. It gave me less than one year-- only back to August, 2007. Then I clicked on "settings" and clicked "2 years" (unfortunately that was the longest time frame there), and it still only showed back to August, 2007.

I've spent quite a while messing around with the site but with no success. Is there any way you could just give me an HTML link to a display of my portfolio's performance from the beginning? I really just signed up here so I could figure out what my annualized return from the beginning (i.e. March 2005) was, and if possible put a widget with a graph of said performance on the sidebar of my investment blog.

If I'm having problems figuring out how to do this, there are probably a lot of other users struggling with the same.

Just so we're on the same page, I'm looking at this portfolio of yours:
http://www.stockalicious.com/portfolio-performance/1937

The zoom function is not for you to select the time period. It's for you to zoom in and out of the selected time period.

Since the settings by default choose 1y, the Max is the 1y view. If you select 6m in settings, then the Max is 6m. Similarly, if you select 2 years in settings, then the Max is 2y.

Unfortunately, for free accounts, the maximum performance review is for the past 2 years.

If you want to see your performance from the beginning (2005), you need to upgrade to a paid account such as the Pro account (which will be available very soon) - which allows you to review up to 5 years ago.

We cannot offer more than 2 years for free accounts because it is very computationally intensive to generate performance reports. So yeah, unless Microsoft buy us over, it's unlikely that we can offer more than 2 years for free accounts.

So the earliest performance you can review is Aug 6, 2006, which is what you get when you select 'Past 2 years' under Settings.

I see that your account is a Basic account. So you should have no problem viewing your past 2 years performance.

Seems to be working ok. You can see Aug 6, 2006 at the top right corner of the chart.

Hmm...

Oh, well. I guess I'll continue my search for a convenient way to calculate my portfolio's return elsewhere.

Xiaoma, I can see your portfolio. It's ok.

Yeah furious. What can't you offer us more than 2 years? Damn it, somebody go get Google/Yahoo/some big company to buy them over so we can get more than 2 years.

:(

chill out guys. I'm furious. I'm No. 1.

We are very interactive here. We listen to our users.

Since you guys clamored for it, I've upgraded the Basic Account.

Now, all basic account users can view up to 3 years. I think that should be more than enough for most retail investors.

As much as we hate charging for users, we need to if you want us to continue improving this site.

Of course, if you want this service to be free, you can find us a sugar daddy.

We are not Mother Teresa. You find us a sugar daddy and we give you lots and lots of cool portfolio analytics features :)

I have only begun implementing some of the most intense portfolio analytics features that will blow your mind. So be prepared to get your mind blown away.

Of course we're not expecting a "Mother Teresa". It's just that I was kind of expecting that the stuff you'd show us our performance from uh... the time frame you said you would in the first post.

Three years isn't enough for me to know what my actual return has been, but if there's a way to put the 3-year graph into a widget or link directly to it, I'll send some traffic this way from my blog. You guys like traffic, right?

Oh, yeah... one way you could cut down on computational costs for long term charts would be to only calculate them once a week.

Ok. I've edited the first post to better reflect the situation.

Actually, based on our records, most of our users import less than 2 years of past transactions, which was why we chose 2 years as the cut off point.

Yes. We like traffic. Let me update the blog widget to allow up to 3 years of performance chart.

Unfortunately, that would provide for a bad user experience.

If you edit a transaction (eg. you change the price), you want the chart to reflect the changes immediately.

That is one of our trademarks. We're live. Everything changes in real-time.

Imagine if you have to wait for 5 days later before the charts reflect the change, you will be frustrated.

Also, paid accounts are hosted on a separate, more powerful server cluster that can meet the higher computational requirements of longer-term performance calculations.

If we were to allow longer-term performance calculations on the free accounts server cluster, that would render the server environment unstable.

So we need to look at the overall picture here. For most users, 3 years is more than enough. For power users such as yourself, you might want to consider upgrading to a paid account.
